What do you enjoy the most about hosting tours?

I really enjoy meeting new people, hearing their stories and more importantly helping to make their holiday a memorable one. Hopefully the golf cooperates and if not ,exploring Byron Bay and playing some fantastic courses will hopefully compensate!

What do you love the most about travelling?

The excitement and anticipation of what lies ahead….the packing ….the organising before all adds to the feeling of finally switching off the phone, emails and really enjoying the special time that you have worked hard to achieve.

Bizarrely, smells are the thing I find that instantly takes me back to certain places – and I love it when that happens!

What do you think are the most important attributes of a Tour Host?

Being a social “people person”.  It’s so important to be a naturally inquisitive person, who is genuinely interested in people and their lives.  I love creating great memories with our guests, and allowing them to enjoy their trip in any way that works perfectly for them.

My background is hospitality and now I am in a job which combines my two passions – golf and entertainment!

What do you do when you’re not hosting tours?

I am the Business Development Manager at Byron Bay Golf Club – this is a new role the club has put on and it has been really successful. There is never a dull moment – I get to work with Corporate events/ functions /wedding / regular member events / Sponsorship – the list goes on!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am originally from the UK – I moved to Australia after my time as a backpacker, when I was 21.  I have lived in Byron bay for the last 19 years. I am married with two beautiful children.  My husband and I owned and operated a bar/restaurant in Byron Bay for the last 20 plus years… we were very lucky to be approached (pre covid) for purchase and managed to sell just before the restrictions. Byron Bay Golf Club were then looking for someone to develop and push areas of the business that were missing and I secured that role.

I learnt to play golf when I moved to Australia, and was lucky enough to have some lovely veteran lady golfers take me under their wing and support me as I understood and learnt the game.

Golf has always played a big part of my life since living in Australia – I love all aspects of our club, from the course to the membership, and now I am fortunate to be working here and hosting the golf retreats for Golf & Tours! (it doesn’t feel like work at all!).  Byron Bay has a wonderful community and is our home – I look forward to sharing it with you and introducing you to the area.
